Oscar Foster Profile
Oscar 's Profile
Details:
- Breed: DSH
- Gender: Male
- Colour: Grey
- Age: 3 Years 6 Months
- Approx. length of foster care required: 2 month
- Status: Desexed
Oscar arrived in our care in May and has been treated for several medical issues. Oscar is FIV positive which can sometimes make recovering from medical conditions a longer process. While in our care he developed skin issues and has experienced bouts of hair loss and very itchy skin. We are currently trailing some medications to see if we can keep Oscar’s skin condition under control so he can experience a good quality of life in a home. We are looking for a compassionate and pragmatic foster carer who understands that Oscar’s prognosis is guarded at this stage.
Medical Needs:
- Medication: Oscar is on a few different medications daily, all of which he eats well mixed into wet food.
- Monitoring: Oscar requires monitoring for any scratching or signs that his skin is becoming itchy. At this stage Oscar wears a cone when not supervised to ensure he doesn’t damage his skin while its healing.
- Care: Oscar is a very active and busy boy. He would love a foster carer who is happy to engage in daily interactive play and provide plenty of environmental enrichment to keep Oscar physically and mentally fulfilled.
Behaviour:
- Oscar is absolutely nuts for food! All food (cat, human, and otherwise) will need to be kept secure or Oscar is likely to get into it. He enjoys enrichment feeding and foraging boxes to make meals more satisfying.
- Oscar shows some frustration and can get over excited at times, he’s an affectionate cat who enjoys pats but can be a bit mouthy with overhandling. Sometimes Oscar pounces or grabs at legs and arms. We’re hoping these behaviours reduce in an environment with more space and opportunities for predatory play. We’re happy to give advice on how to manage these behaviours.
Ideal Foster Home:
- Adult Household
- Routine Household
- Ideally with someone home often
- Cat-savvy and familiar with cat body language
Oscar is a sweet and smart boy who would love an adult household with plenty to do and people to interact with. We’re feeling hopeful that his medical condition is able to be managed.
